WHAT WE DO

Crisis Center programs strategically address the many issues facing victims of domestic violence and sexual assault while working to reduce the number of future victims through education and prevention. Our programming areas include:

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

DATING, SPOUSE OR PARTNER

If an attack is in progress or about to happen:

  • Call 911
  • If possible, protect yourself, children, and pets.

If an attack has already happened:

  • Get to a place where you feel safe.
  • Call 911 or our 24/7 hotline 308-381-0555

TEEN AND ADULT RAPE OR OTHER SEXUAL ASSAULT

  • Call 911 or go to an emergency room immediately.
  • We know this is a big ask, but do not shower or change your clothes until you’ve been to the hospital. If you must change your clothes, bring them to the hospital with you unwashed.

CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

  • If an assault or injury has just happened, call 911. You may also go to a hospital emergency room and/or call the Nebraska Child Protective Services 24-hour hotline at 1-800-652-1999.
  • Do not have the child bathe or change clothes until they’ve been seen at a hospital. If they must change clothes, bring the unwashed clothing to the hospital.

VICTIM SERVICES

No one should have to walk alone

Crisis Center assures that victims have everything they need to create a safe and strong life for themselves and their families. Our service areas include Hall, Hamilton, Howard & Merrick Counties in the State of Nebraska.

Safety Services:

24/7 hotline, expert accompaniment, and navigation through the systems (court hearings, welfare applications, etc.), and provide you with counseling and legal aid referrals as needed. Our advocates are trained to offer victims confidential support and assist in completing the necessary documents needed when filing protection and harassment orders.  If a sexual assault has taken place, victims will need to be taken to the local Emergency Room for a SANE Exam upon their request.  Our advocates are trained to accompany victims through this process.

Crisis Center, Inc. maintains two safe shelters in the Grand Island area.  These shelters are available at a first come first serve basis and are based on client needs as well as long-term goals.  Financial services and transportation can be provided, however, are not guaranteed due to the amount of staff and funding that may or may not be available.

Self-Sufficiency Services:

Budgeting, career services (i.e. resume assistance, job search, etc.), and on-going support through our Domestic Violence Advocates through case management and teamwork.

PREVENTION & EDUCATION

Domestic violence affects us all

We also provide a vital service in education and prevention for the community at large, to raise awareness about issues of power and control—because the truth is, nobody is immune to this epidemic.

We all know someone who is affected by domestic violence or sexual assault. And it can happen to anyone, including you. Our goal is for everyone in our service area to know about the Crisis Center before they need its services, not afterward.

ADULT EDUCATION

We have an adult education and prevention advocate on staff as well.  This advocate can work with community members, other human service organizations, law enforcement agencies, businesses and the community at large on a variety of training opportunities. This advocate is also responsible for all of the support groups that we hold for clients of the Crisis Center.  These groups focus on everything from self-care, self-esteem to safety planning.  You must complete an intake with our Adult Education and Prevention advocate in order to qualify for these services.

INTERVENTION PROGRAMS

Crisis Center also offers Domestic Violence Intervention Programs as well.  These programs are intended for the perpetrator/abuser and help individuals stop the violence and abuse that is destroying their relationships with partners, children, family members and the community they reside in.  These courses are often ordered to be attended by probation/parole, however, individuals can determine that these intervention type classes are needed privately as well.  There is a cost associated with this service.
